A place that looks like it is from out of space has been created in the middle of Famagusta. It’s design makes you wonder what goes on inside. Thrones Club was built by Northernland and designed by interior designer Ürün Albayrak. Yet when we tried to see him he could only do an online interview due to his busy schedule.
It didn’t help at all because by the time I had finished the design, it didnt have a name. Maybe the design helped with the name.
Of course. I have been included since the idea first came about. Mr. Koral (Koral Bozkurt, Director of Northernland Construction) and I were in contact from the very beginning. First of all we drew a template according to the land. I also drew the frame of the building. Northerland’s arcitect and engineer stepped in with the static report and placed the columns. The columns bearing the weight and beams were designed in a way where they wouldnt take up space along the walls.
Let me Explain: The double door used for sound insulation created a small lobby at the entrance. From the lobby you can see there is excitement inside but you do not have a perfect view. The stage was the most important feature. When you walk in, the first thing you see is the bar. This is why the bar had to be special. We used white beacuse the colour could be changed with the help of the lighting system. There was a copy of it upstairs creating a drop line. The bar upstairs serves the boxes. This section was created for private organisations. But can be used in accordance to the programme on stage.
It was made sure that the stage wasn’t the first thing you saw and that it was at the same distance from the bistro tables as it was from the boxes. To be able to do this, we placed the stage on the long side of the rectagular building. Then we placed fragmental screens on the walls of the stage. The corridor forming between the screens goes upstairs to the backstage. We can also use this corridor as a DJ cabin.
Definitely. Hexagons are a symbol of modernism, even space. Hexagons are used in areas such as NASA and advertisements based on technology. This is were the idea for this design came from and it was used everywhere. The mirrors were placed on all walls to draw attention. The reflection technique was used inside with the help of the lighting system in many areas.
Black marble and black painted emaye glass was used in the toilets. The flooring is black epoksi surfacing. The three steps in front of the stage are marble with embedded led lights. Other then that, most of the surfaces are mirrors. Mirrors are not generally used on the outside facade of a building. I think there is no other building like this in North Cyprus. The insulation was the top priority, even the air vents had insulation because the venue is in the middle of a residential area. In some sections horse hair was used on top of foam in others black painted glass, and when the stage lights come on, they all turn to the mirrors.
Thank you very much, It was a fun chat, have a good day too.
